Introduction

Šahovski klub Dubica needed a credible web presence that reflected the club's people, achievements and role in Kozarska Dubica. The result is a bilingual static website in Serbian Latin and English, built from the club's original photographs and identity.

I handled the project end to end: visual direction, information architecture, responsive implementation, performance work, accessibility, SEO and production handover.

The Challenge

The club already communicates current news through Facebook, while the website was intended as a one-time build without a maintenance contract. Publishing tournament dates, schedules or other short-lived claims on the site would create stale information after handover.

The site also had to work for parents, younger players and older members, across slower mobile connections, without sacrificing the cinematic visual direction. Club photography includes real members, so the implementation had to avoid third-party embeds and unnecessary tracking surfaces.

The Solution

Evergreen content architecture. Nothing on the main site depends on a future date. Current tournament details and registration stay on the club's Facebook page, where the club already publishes them. The site remains accurate without an editor logging in every week.

Local, responsive media. Original club photographs, video and fonts are served locally. Images have AVIF and WebP derivatives for multiple viewport sizes. The hero video pauses offscreen and gives reduced-motion or data-saving visitors a still image.

Bilingual static delivery. Serbian Latin lives at /; English at /en/. Canonical URLs, language alternates, sitemap metadata and structured data are generated for both. The Next.js static export needs no CMS, database, functions or paid runtime.

Privacy and accessibility. No contact form, analytics, advertising pixels or embedded social feeds. Semantic structure, keyboard-safe navigation, native-dialog gallery behavior and reduced-motion handling were verified across mobile and desktop widths.

Outcome

The finished site is live at sahdubica.com and was handed over as a low-maintenance static build. The production audit recorded Lighthouse 100 for accessibility, best practices and SEO, with CLS 0.00.

The larger result is operational: the club owns a fast, bilingual home on the web, while time-sensitive communication stays in the channel its members already use. There are no analytics subscriptions, CMS accounts or backend services for the club to maintain.

Conclusion

A small organization does not need a complicated platform to look established online. It needs the right information, real photography, a clear route to contact and an implementation that will not decay after launch.

Šahovski klub Dubica is a compact example of product judgment: the technical solution was shaped around who would maintain it, not around adding the maximum number of features.
